The marathon owes its name to the legend of a Greek herald who, in 490 BC, carried the news of the victory over the Persians from Marathon to Athens, where he collapsed and died. The Pyramids of Giza were built around 2,000 years earlier and are the only surviving wonder of the ancient world. Yesterday, they provided the backdrop for a half marathon, and I was lucky enough to be part of this extraordinary race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pyramids always in view<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

What an impressive atmosphere. Around 7,000 runners set out on a thoroughly challenging course. Mostly asphalt, an undulating profile, and a few spectators along the route, some of them on camels. No matter where you were, the pyramids were always present. Sometimes in front of you, sometimes beside you, sometimes behind you. This panorama is difficult to put into words. It is simply impressive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The external conditions were also perfect. At the start, the temperature was a pleasant 12 degrees Celsius. This is one of the reasons why the race, now in its sixth year, always takes place in December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
